Admit it, you want to be rich. From time to time, you’ll have this empty stare and start to imagine what your life would be like if you are actually rich. You could have everything that you had ever wanted without having to worry about how you’ll be paying for it. You can eat anything you want, travel to wherever you want and never have to work for money again. Okay, this may not be you, it’s actually me – daydreaming.
 

I am not going to lie. I often daydream about being rich and wonder how my life is going to be if I am actually rich. I am not there yet. I’ll know that I am there once I have achieved financial independence. That’s my personal definition of rich. I don’t need millions in the bank or living in a luxurious mansion with a couple of Ferrari in the driveway to be rich. I just need enough money to never have to work for money again.
 

Everyone’s definition of rich is different as we all have different standards, needs and wants. Instead of having specific figures to measure how rich a person is, I’ve come up with eight fun ways to tell if you will be rich. Some ways are great, while other ways are not so great and it’s best to stay away. Okay, enough talking already. Let’s get down to business and see how we can all get rich one way or the other.

8) Appears To Be Rich

These are the people that I like to call the Jones. They drive nice cars, wear designers all over and goes on lavish vacations. This is what you see on the surface. However, underneath their financial hood, you’ll most likely see a large personal line of credit and credit card balances, and almost next to nothing in savings. True wealth doesn’t come from owing depreciating assets, they come from owing appreciating assets like stocks, bonds or real estate.

7) Will Never Be Rich

It’s sad, but it’s true for many people, they will never be rich. The easiest way to tell is the trajectory of their debts and savings. Their debts are often on the rise and their savings are either stagnant or on a decline. You can’t accumulate or build wealth if your money is going to service your debt rather than being invested in your savings or investment accounts. Unless you can change the trajectory of these two items, otherwise, you’ll never be rich.

6) Had Been Rich

If you had been rich previously and now you’re not, then it can mean one of two things. You previously made a tone of money and you either mindlessly spent it all or you encountered a financial crisis and lost it all. If it’s the latter, you probably still have the potential and skills to try and become rich once again. If it’s the former, then you’re pretty much out of money and out of luck.

5) Born Rich

Congratulation, if you were fortunate enough to be born into a wealthy family, then you’ve got a head start in life. Just because your family is rich, it doesn’t mean that you’ll be rich. I was born into a rich family. At least that was what I was told. I could have been the living the luxury life as a spoiled brat. However, as far as I can remember, my family’s wealth was confiscated by the communist government before I can ever enjoy it. So, just because your family is rich doesn’t mean that you’ll inherit all the wealth. The best way to get rich is to build wealth yourself.

4) Accidentally Rich

There are a couple of ways to become accidentally rich. By far, the most leisurely and fun way to get accidentally rich is from the lottery system. I must admit, this is one of the ways that I often dream of getting rich when I bought my lottery ticket. The other way is pretty similar to playing the lottery like hitting the jackpot at the casino. Last, but not least, getting a sizeable inheritance from a relative when you are least expecting. Don’t count on this method to get rich. Just leave it to chances.

3) Forgot To Be Rich

If you forgot to be rich, it meant that you are already rich. Just because you have more money than you can ever spend in your lifetime, it doesn’t mean that you have to spend frivolously. My favourite example of a person who forgot that he’s rich is Warren Buffett. Would you use a coupon at McDonald’s if you are a billionaire?

2) Has The Potential To Be Rich

If you have the potential to be rich, it means that you have a rare talent that very few people have. You either are very athletic, creative, musically talented or exceptionally intelligent. In order to get rich, you’ll have to be able to harness and monetize your talent. So, if you possess exceptional athletic skills, then trying to make it to the big leagues is a great idea. If you have the golden voice, then produce that platinum record and let the world enjoy your beautiful music.

1) Inspired To Be Rich

Everyone wants to be rich, but not everyone is inspired to be rich. For the individuals that are inspired to be rich, they have this motivation and relentless drive to push themselves there. These individual are willing to do whatever it takes and go any distance – like working 16 hours a day and never take the weekends or holiday off. If you inspired to be rich, then you’ve got to start putting in the hard work.

My Two Cents

There are many ways to become rich. Whether you want to become rich or not, the best way to create and preserve your wealth is to build it yourself. Too often, people want to project the image of being rich by showing off the luxurious lifestyle that they are living. In my opinion, there is no need to show off your wealth by trying to impress others. True wealth comes from knowing that you are content with what you have and the people that surround you.
